Editorial Product Review:Item Description:Decades ago, bells like this were a fixture in every farmyard and school in the country. Before pagers, cell phones and other electronic devices they were the most effective means of calling children in from play, signaling farm workers that dinner was ready or sounding an alarm. That charm and functionality has been recreated with this large iron bell, ruggedly cast like the original so it'll last for generations. Black with antique highlights and can be easily painted to match your surroundings. Easy assembly with included hardware. Assembled dimensions: 24'H x 20'W x 14'D, 25 lbs, ships UPS.

school bell
PAY ATTENTION TO ALL THE REVIEWS!!!! I thought the review regarding the ugly bronze bell with the scrolls was just a fluke. NOT SO, I ordered the bell pictured that was black and didn't have scrolls however I received the ugly bronze bell with the hideous scrolls. Our reviews don't do the ugliness justice. What am I going to do with this hunk of ugly junk? I refuse to put it in my yard as I initially desired since it is so disgusting. I'll be damn, the $25.00 I had to pay for shipping to get it here if I'm going to pay another $25.00 to send it back. I'll have more in shipping than the cost of the bell. It's so ugly I wouldn't give it to my worst enemy as a wedding gift. BUYERS BE CAREFUL!!!!!!

not as advertised
The description and picture were very misleading. We were very disappointed. It is an ugly bronze...not black and has hideous, gaudy curly cues around the bell. I'm going to try and grind them off and paint it black so it looks like the bell in the picture which I was after. I wouldn't recommend unless you want a fou-fou bell covered with curly cues.

Farmhouse school bell well worth the money
After much searching we purchased this schoolyard bell and are very pleased with it.The bell itself is well made with a great sound and nice apperance. The only thing we found that we felt should or could be improved upon was the way the bell is mounted. As Derek Jensen also talked about in his review. The only way it can be mounted is perfectly straight up as the bell sits in a open mount.Overall the cost of the bell and although the shipping is quite high we felt that this bell is well worth the money and will most likely be ordering another in the near future.

Very nice, but a bit impractical
I bought this bell for my sister after discussing how she needed a "dinner bell" like the one our mother had when we were kids. This looked ideal, but when only after I placed the order did I notice the $25 shipping cost. The high shipping is because this bell is *huge*. It's cast iron and well-made... and very heavy. It's pretty easy to put together, altho it looks like it was designed to have a wooden handle, which it does not come with. The only really bad thing about it is the mount. The bell can't sit on its own and can't be hung from above. The mount is a simple flange on the bottom designed to be screwed to the front of a flat surface with nothing above it, perhaps a post.
