- Only good for a season
With a great name like Fiskars I had high hopes for this product, but was disappointed. They work great at first - lightweight, great cutting, great angles, etc. But once used several times.....it gets harder and harder to cut grass, grass gets caught up in the blades, and if you happen to get a twig or wood chip in the blades by accident as you cut - one more thing to pry out of the blades. The more this product is used, the worse it seems to work. Not sure if worth the price to buy a new one each year.

- EXCELLENT...EXCELLENT...EXCELLENT
I have a bad back that gives me problems when I stoop while doing yard work. I recently installed a decorative steel fence around my front yard and didn't want the weedeater to strip the grass and leave bare soil under the fence and I knew I would be unable to trim the grass with hand shears. The long neck shears is perfect for this task. I don't have to stoop at all and the grass is even at the fence.

This is an excellent product.

- So far, so good
My requirements for this tool are simple: help me clip around a few obstacles in the lawn after mowing, without firing up a gas trimmer or dealing with jammed or empty string spools. Just give me some hand shears that I can operate without stooping or crawling on hands and knees. I was surprised that this was the only product I could find that fit the bill. It works as expected. I would have been willing to pay a bit more for something sturdier and with longer blades, but this seems to work. It's definitely not for heavy duty use.

- Fiskars A Homeowners Dream
I received the Fiskars Long Handled Trimmer very fast and that same evening I trimmed around all the flower beds in my backyard. They are wonderful and I will be using them for a long time to come. I am a wheelchair user, homeowner and plant lover. This product has enabled me to keep my yard looking well manicured and that makes me very happy. Thanks Fiskars.

Holiday electronics sales strong, says SIA

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
