Editorial Product Review:

Item Description:
FIRST ASCENT The latest and greatest release from Sender Films and director/producer Peter Mortimer, creators of the multi-award winning Return2Sender and Front Range Freaks. First Ascent features today?s top rock climbers as they lay siege to steep faces and soaring alpine walls in pursuit of climbing?s pinnacle achievement ? the First Ascent. Mortimer brings us on a globe-trotting journey to capture the laughs, the tears, and the truly radical feats of men and women on climbing?s cutting edge. The film takes us from high Himalayan peaks to deep water soloing on the coast of Thailand, and from the sobering heights of the Black Canyon to Timmy 'Urban Ape' O?Neill?s monkey business on the buildings of Hollywood. A preview segment from First Ascent premiered in January, 2006 at the Barry Corbett Film Festival in Jackson, WY and won the festival?s Audience Award and its Grand Prize. Sender Films

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - If you like trad climbing
A totally inspiring film for trad climbers. Compelling storyline, nice pace, gets a little slow in the middle (with one not-so-inspiring and one comic sequence), then picks right back up again. What's really cool is also how the director captured the essence of / personallity of the climbers. I have had the good fortune of attending a trad-climbing clinic run by Cedar Wright (one of the featured climbers) at the 07 Petzl Roc Trip and after sharing a car trip with Cedar as well as half a day of his teachings, I feel like he is pretty much the guy you see in this video; he's able to be so much better than the rest of us at this sport yet stay totally approacheable, psyched about his climbing, easy going but sets goals and works hard to get there. On a personal level, after having seen how the climbers in this video commit to moves after having placed their gears, and then not worry about falling and just concentrate on the moves, I have actually improved my mental side through emulation; and sure enough, the added focus just makes for a better climbing experience; net net: worrying less = less falling and therefore I am actually a safer climber than when I fussed more.

Garden Shopping and Outdoor Reviews

Newegg.com is offering the Plantronics Voyager 855, which pulls double duty as a Bluetooth headset and wireless stereo earbuds, for $57.99, shipped.

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it's expensive, the Sony VAIO VGN-TX670P delivers a great combination of business and entertainment features, long battery life, and unparalleled connectivity in an incredibly ultraportable package.
