Buyer Reviews

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - It works fine - if you glue it on.
I must like these tape holders.

Here I am at Amazon, trying to find more of them. I will give it a 4.

I do restoration carpentry and have had a number of magnetic holders over the years. This one works well enough that I have five of them. In fact, I keep a spare tape and holder in my toy box, ready to go into service as needed.

This model, with flaws, works well. It works better than others I have used. Twist and off it comes; whack and it's back in the holder. Very little fumbling or tugging in drawing or stowing the tape.

It has a clever design - as you rotate the tape, the holder rides up on triangular ribs, getting further away from the magnets. Quick twist and the tape releases. Try a direct pull outward and it's brute force time.

First thing you learn is that the adhesive foam is totally useless.

Get rid of it. Scrape and sand the area clean. Rough it up. Mark the arrow on the magnet so you get the orientation right the first time.

Heat up the hot glue gun and put generous amounts on the magnet and the tape. Stick the two together - and try to get the arrow pointing in the right direction (witness marks help).

So far, this method has held up - until today when the glue line failed at the plastic. Wonder if it was the glue or that I was up on the AlumAPole, running siding. I'm going to stick a 16' FastCap on it.

WHAT I WANT: I want to buy more magnets so I can set up more tapes for the same holders. I would love to be able to swap out tapes. I could have used my 16' FastCap storypole tape today and put the 35' away. Hate having to buy a complete rig each time.

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Doesn't fit "any tape" - Had to modify
I bought this and at first I was very dissapointed. There's groves in the piece that attaches to your tape that are supposed to match up with the pattern around your belt clip on your tape. Didn't match up close on my Stanley fat Max X'treme 30' tape. The screws they supplied didn't fit my thread pattern in my tape. I just had to use my original screw that sucured the belt clip. so needless to say, through all that the adhesive tape was worthless! Even if it worked i don't know that the tape would hold up that long.
Through all that mess; i still was determined to get this thing working like it should. How else would I fasten the adapter to my tape other than.......GORILLA GLUE! I sanded off the raised part on the back of my tape since it didn't match the patern on the adapter piece. Now my tape is flat so the adapter magnet fits against the tape. Then I just glued it and clamped it overnight. Now..... It's great! I love it! My only problem is how am I getting this adapter off my tape when I need a new tape measure???? How do you get something off that's gorilla glued?? I'm hoping Goo gone might soften the glue. I'll worry about that when I get there. At first I would rate this 1 star. But after I got it to work properly;I love it.

Customer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Started OK, then failed, no longer 5 star rating
This started out OK, but the adhesive tape that holds the magnet to your tape measure doesn't withstand the repeated "twisting" required. As noted by previous review, the foam tape eventually fails, and then the tape measure just spins on the center screw.

Believe me, I carefully used the foam tape that was supplied, pressed very firmly, and tightened the screw completely. In use, you could see the foam tape "moving" a bit. It lasted for about a week.

I had some automotive body molding adhesive tape left over (made by 3M) and that solved the problem. That tape is more "dense", the stuff that comes with the product has too much air bubbles in the foam tape.

I used the holder for weeks without grief on the "new" tape, but noticed that if I was running and my arm bumped against the tape, it would occasionally fall off (big - heavy Fat Max 35'). That is not OK, to have a tape bouncing down a roof and toward a car parked in the driveway.

I eventually went back to my MagTite holder, and modified it so that the belt clip stayed on. The MagTite is a couple dollars cheaper, if you don't see it at Amazon it is sold at OSH and maybe other stores. It is the one with a big solid round magnet, rather than the 3 little ones.

Updated this review, but it won't let me change the 5 stars, at this point I would give it 2 stars because most consumers would be happy, and not subject it to the same stress that I do.

Customer Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Good idea gone bad.
As a trim carpenter I'm always looking for new ways to make my job more organized and easier, so I bought this thing. Before, I had a round magnetic holder mounted on my tool belt and a round metal plate attached to the back of my tape measure, which worked pretty good. This holder looked more Hi tech and the description sounded great so I bought it. First off it took me 45 minutes of customizing to get the POS to fit on my belt. The slots you slide the belt through are really thin. As you can see from the picture, the mount is separated into 3 spaces. If it's not lined up right it won't stick and you'll drop it on the floor. It comes with this double stick foam adhesive that is supposed to keep it stuck to your tape.Right. Well that worked for about 2 minutes before it started twisting around. You have to look at it everytime to make sure it lines up. So now I've got this measuring tape that sticks to everything except the holder. I can't put it in my pouch or every screw and nail sticks to it, so I end up laying it on the table and walking back and forth all day. I did a web search and found a stronger round magnet with a hole already in it and mounted it to the front of my tool belt. It's so strong that any tape measure will stick to it all by itself, the metal in the tape is all it needs.

Sports Wear Reviews

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

While compact and convenient, Panasonic's SD-based SDR-S150 camcorder doesn't make the quality cut.
