Amazon.com Review:A deceptively simple-looking tool, the BoWrench is a boon for both professional deck builders and do-it-yourselfers. The BoWench gives you a fast, one-person way to straighten decking boards. This is great, because decking material--whether redwood, cedar, or another, more exotic rot-resistant wood--is often warped, especially in 14- to 16-foot lengths. To operate the BoWrench, you simply fit the tool on a joist, swing the lever arm, and release. You can either push or pull boards into alignment, and when the handle is perpendicular, the tool locks in place, holding the board securely and leaving you free to drive nails or screws. The BoWrench is better than toenailing. Burying nails in the sides of decking to close gaps works, but it gives water more ways to enter the decking, which eventually leads to rot. With the BoWrench, you'll save time, create a longer-lasting surface, and maximize material. Using the special cam attachment (sold separately), the BoWrench replaces the clumsy beater block as the best way to close gaps in tongue-and-groove plywood and paneling.

A must have for installing wooden 2"x6" decking
I just purchased this BW-2 Bowrench decking wrench to help me resurface a roughly 420 square ft. deck from pressure treated 2" x 6" lumber. A friend of mine who has mmany years experience building his own decks (and helping out other friends) snickered when he came over to lend me a hand. Said things like "I see you got another gadget", and "Hey, bright orange swively thing...".
By the end of the 2nd row of planking, he was singing a different tune. "Hey, this is a really nice tool". By the 7th row, "You couldn't make these nice straight rows out of this bent lumber without this tool", and "I wish that I had this when I did my decks".
By the 10th row, "You said you paid $35, but if you needed one now, you would pay $100 and be happy to pay it" and "If this breaks, you need to have one over-nighted tomorrow"
This Bowrench is our entire conversation now, other than discussing about contract negotiations with the state of NJ (He's a Corrections officer), or throwing a compliment or two towards my 10" Bosch compund slider (which I also bought at Amazon 5 years ago) or the Philips Square-drive decking screws that we are using. I think he wants to marry this decking wrench...
Seriously, I don't see how you can put together a straight deck out of non-linear wooden constituents without this tool, especially with the thick 2" x 6" boards that I'm using both for strength and the substantially lower cost relative to 5/4" decking.

Wow....indispensable when building a deck!
I was reluctant to purchase this product due to the fact it would be a one-time use. Once the deck is complete...it would collect dust. However, I'm very glad I purchased this tool. I recently built a 22x14 deck and this tool proved invaluable. I used premium 5/4 treated decking, some of which warped over several days as it began to dry out. As I approached the last 5 boards I noticed one was woefully warped. This tool made it a snap to get into place and continue with the deck. I could have built this deck without this tool, but I don't think the results would have been as satisfying. I would highly recommend this to anyone building a deck for themselves.

This rocks! Really~
I've got to say, I was about to give up on doing my deck by myself...I'm building a deck with Trex accents and using Tigerclaw fasteners. It was damn near impossible before I got this tool. It's true, the picture is incorrect, but this still works great! Get one and build your deck!

Must have tool!
This tool is a little expensive but I couldn't have completed my project without it or something similar. If you area working with Hardwood decking it is a must!
