No problems so far, I'm completely happy.
This is my first multi-function center, but not my first Canon product. I have been satisfied with their cameras for quite a while.
I am a very light user, and I don't put a lot of demands on this product. I print off black and white text documents, and I scan in drawings and pictures so I can put them on my website.
I think the ink life was acceptable for what I have done so far, and I wasn't shocked to see the price of replacement ink tanks. So far, I have only been through one of the black ink tanks, and I bought a two pack of refills for $24.
My text documents printed very clean appearing, high contrast prints all the up until the point at which the ink tanks were completely dry. There was no gradual fading out of the strength of the black.
Like I said before, I don't have a lot of experience in using these kind of machines, so maybe I'm easy to please but I think the quality of the scans has been great. I have had no problem using the machine as far as moving through the menus and doing things like printing with special effects or shrinking pictures.
I have even found much of the bundled software to be really useful, which is rare for me to do.
For what I paid for this product, I am very pleased with what I got. So far, so good.
I did have to go through the software installation process about 5 times before my computer got it all right and was able to go ahead with detecting the printer. That is not the fault of Canon or the fault of the MFC, I just used the manual to troubleshoot the problem and I eventually got everything installed fully and correctly.

Impressed...glad I took so much time to read the reviews
I just bought the mp830 after reading so many reviews on all-in-one printers, and I am glad I took the time. If you are like me, it seems that all in one printers don't seem to fair to well on customer satisfaction. I was very surprised to see such a high score on this printer on amazon with reviews totaling over 300, that seem to say a lot. Surprise... truth does seem to be in the numbers. Except I think it is a 5 star product.
Setup was easy and the only problem I had was getting the pc to recognize my printer, but low and behold it was a buffoon error on my part. I had not realized that there were 3 various usb connections in the back. LOL...Make sure you pick the right one, and not for the fax or phone but the one on the far outside. I admit I am always in a hurry to get things done and this little error caused me to take a few more minutes than it should have.
As far as the quality of printing and scanning. I couldn't be more happy. I own a hp psc 1315 printer, hp photosmart 1115 and Epson Stylus Photo R800 professional printer and hp flatbed scanner that always worked like a gem. It appears this unit is all I need. The scanner impressed me with it's quality of scanning. I am not sure I can tell the difference between my epson r800 prints from the one's I printed off the mp830 using that very expensive photo paper from epson. Yep, the mp830 seems to do well on this paper whereas my hp photosmart 1115 didn't. I don't need the networking feature so buying the mp850 was a moot point. OH...it looks pretty nice on my desk too.
I never thought I could be happy with an all in one, but decided to clean up the office a bit and hoped that I would not sacrafice quality in the process and it appears i was more successful than dreamed.
One person commented on referring to this printer as an ink hog! WELL, based on my other printers, the mp830 does better than what I am use to. The ink also seems to costs less online compared to my other printers from what I see on that auction site.
Yep, I am happier than I ever thought I would be with this printer. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an all in one.

No No, Think Twice
I was aware of many negative reviews about excessive ink consumption of this product but decided to make a purchase anyway because I believed in Canon quality and had an expectation of years of trouble free service.
But 3 days ago it displayed a dreadful error code UA00 and stopped working completely after 1yr and 5mon of light mainly printing usage.
I can live with a bad luck but not with a bad,out of warranty printer.
If I drive 20 miles to the nearest Canon service center and pay $65, I will be able to decide what to do next. Whether throw it away or have it repaired.

Problematic
I thought I had such a deal when I snapped up this multifunction printer. I've always been a Canon fan (cameras, camcorders, etc.). But this printer is horrible at photo printing, despite my lengthy attempts at tweaking its settings. It is no match for my Epson Stylus Photo R380 in that regard.
The office-use functions work well, but this printer consumes vast amounts of very expensive ink. Even when printing or copying black and white documents, the color cartridges indicate they are using ink! I am looking at the newer HP models (which are wireless and have much less expensive ink) and hoping for a Black Friday sale to scoop one up and sell this printer on eBay. Boooooo, Canon!
