Customer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent addition to your travel kit
True story: I was a passenger in a car on a lengthy expressway trip zipping along at . . . well, it wasn't 55. I was trying to work on a deadline project using my laptop and absolutely, positively needed to get online to fetch some information from the web. No problem thought I: I'll use my cell phone as a modem. I reached into my travel bag for my cell phone's USB cable and - yep, I had left it at home. (Bluetooth wasn't working.)

For a moment I sort of panicked, thinking we would have to take time to connect at a truck stop. Then I remembered this handy little kit was tucked away in my bag.

A few seconds later, I had put the needed cable together and was online.

There are many kits like this on the market. I suspect that there are only one, two or a very few companies that make the fittings and they assemble the kits to the specificationas of their customers like Cables To Go, Belkin and others.

This Cables To Go kit is more fully featured than any other I've seen so far. It not only has every relatively common USB connector, it also has 6-pin and 4-pin Firewire connectors, an RJ-11 (telephone jack) cable, another for RJ-45 (CAT5 network), a mouse suitable for short-term use, a 4-port USB hub and a surpisingly useful RJ-45 crossover cable (which can come in very handy when you need to move massive amounts of data from one computer to another).

Overall, this is a great value. It is not something that you're likely to use every day, but, let's say, when you're zipping down the highway and absolutely, positively need to hook up with your cell phone to get online and realize you forgot your specialty cable, you'll appreciate having this kit on hand.

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very useful
Not sure whether I'll every use some of the adapters, but overall the package is quality and compact. Great value.

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great cable kit.
This works really well if you travel or have a notebook you use at work and at home. It has everything. It is a great buy -- my husband is thrilled with it.

Customer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great organization
This is one of those products that I wish I could have bought much sooner. it has a wide variety of different cable needs for my laptop and the best part is that it is all neatly arranged in one place for me to refer to. As a heavy notebook and travel computing user, I was constantly plagued with clutter in my computer bag, and having great difficulty finding anything among the dozens of pockets. With this kit, all of my cabling needs are in one place, that I can quickly get too, and no more fumbling.

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it has a few design and performance glitches, the Sony Ericsson W300i is a quality, basic MP3 cell phone.

Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.

But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.

Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
