Amazon.com Review:
This 6-volt cordless drill/driver is ready to take on any around-the-house task with quick, efficient ease. It's perfect for smaller jobs that don't require huge, heavy power tools but do require real power. This small but mighty hand-held model is the go-to device for hanging blinds, pictures, or curtain rods -- and it makes assembling furniture and shelving a quick, painless procedure.

The AD600 is designed for heavy-duty performance with minimum fuss. It uses four ordinary AA batteries to give you plenty of project power, and it's loaded with all the right features to get you started and keep you going from start to finish, whether you're setting up bookshelves or just swapping out drawer knobs. The forward/reverse rocker switch makes it easy to move between screwdriving and screw removal, and the spindle lock holds the bit in place for manual use, in case you require extra precision. The AD600 even has the Quick Connect bit change system for fast drilling and driving and less downtime between projects.

This 6-volt drill/driver produces up to 130 rpm, and 40 in./lbs. of torque. It includes four AA batteries, plus an accessory set that expands its versatility. The accessory set includes 20 anchors and screws, two hex shank screwdriver bits, and two hex shank drill bits. -- Cherie Priest

Customer Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - toy screwdriver
I bought this because I have the other B&D cordless screwdriver that takes AA batteries and really liked it. But it is in-line, so I couldn't get into tight spaces with it. I thought this would be of similar quality. I was wrong. It is more expensive but feels like and performs like a cheap plastic toy. Don't even think about using it as a drill or to torque screws down with any significant force. Spend a little more money and get a quality tool.

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Owned for over 5 years
I just broke my AD600 and am thankful they are still being sold! I bought this one at least 5 years ago when we were updating our kitchen cabinets, and for the price (bought at wally world) it lasted a good amount of time. Of course the drill doesn't go as fast as you'd be used to on other hand sets, but for me it worked great. I've used it at least once a week, mainly for screwing and drilling 1/8. I'm a girl, and I live in an apartment. If you are any bit fearful of powertools, start off with this one first. Its great for smaller projects. I only gave it four stars because of the power in it is probably not right for most people. For me, it was great, and I'm buying a new one so I can be there to help a friend update her new home. Great buy! And small/light weight

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Easy to use
I got this for my husband but I actually use it more than him! I have used it for all the baby proofing around our house and it works great. I've used expensive drills but I like this one better. Its lightweight and easy to manuever.

Customer Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Its not a drill, its a screw driver
I bought one from the local wally world thinking it would be nice to have a drill that used such convenient power source, especially since i have a 15 minute charger. i was disappointed, i didn't notice that it was listed as 130rpm on the back, that is absurdly slow. i had assumed it would be atleast close to the speed of my previous 7.2v drill since it was 6v, boy was i wrong! it is great for a screw driver, but it is more or less useless as a drill, the cheapest cordless drill at wallyworld was a 7.2v kraftech that runs at ~600rpm for $14, for 20 dollars you can get a corded black and decker that runs 1200rpm. I ended up biting the bullet and getting a $28 5.2amp corded black and decker from target and it came with a canvas bag. 1500rpm and uses regular bits, and best of all, it varies speed with trigger pressure, and no worrying about replacing expensive rechargeable battery packs. it should last for years. the hex bits this alkaline drill uses also limits how easily you can buy replacement bits. its harder to buy a single bit instead of a kit filled with things you don't need. so really, if you need a new cordless screw driver and like a drill grip, than it works ok, but other wise, its a very poor drill even considering price. because of the slow speed i looked up information on my other black and decker screw driver 3.6v~$15, and it was 180rpm! somethings not quite kosher when a 3.6v screw driver is faster than a 6v "drill".

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
